Playing with Abstracts

And it really is playing! :o)

Now that all the shows are over.... workshops over.... teaching done... back from NH... it's time for me to relax and play.... finally! I've been dying to get back into painting, along with a dozen other things, but painting has always been a favorite of mine.

About 2 years ago I decided to try my hand at an abstract and it was so much fun I just needed to play at it again. This is where I am so far.... and I'm not sure where I'm headed. I'm just playing with colors and shapes that I love. I'm thinking... hm.... maybe an image transfer... maybe some collaging.... maybe some more geometric shapes??? I'd like to keep the feel of a distant forest.....

Any input from other artists would be greatly appreciated. :o)

This is the one that I painted about 2 years ago and I must say I like it.... it's very different from anything I'd done before.Thank you all for stopping by and for your comments... I love reading all of them.

I hope you all have a wonderful and creative weekend! Play!

Back again...

My how time flies.... all the time.... but our time in New Hampshire just flew by. We had a great time visiting with my daughter and her husband and sharing in their love of Halloween. I thought I'd show you some pictures I took in their home prior to their Halloween party. Trust me... this is only a very small sampling of their haunted house. If you look up and in every corner there are ghosts, witches, vultures, bats, skeletons, ghouls, spiders... you name it... if it's scary it's in their house.

As a disclaimer.... as a young mother making costumes for her sweet little girl I chose to create little princesses... Cinderella type costumes... little fairies with magic wands etc.... NOT the grown up Vampiress or Witch that now lives in New Hampshire... lol

When you first walk into the front door this is what you are greeted with...
And this charming feature comes through the wall... tempting you with a real apple...

Now really, who has gravestones in their bathroom? Not to mention the walking/talking brain that giggles and hums a tune when you walk by...

My personal favorite (NOT) is Michael Myers, standing his full 6' and fully animated. It takes awhile to get used to his eyes following you across the room or his arms moving and stabbing the knife up and down. Strange thing... I had a close-up of his eyes and when I uploaded to the computer that frame was completely black.... OOOOOoooo!
And lastly is a painting that I did for them in honor of their favorite holiday and their anniversary. .. I used a pearlescent white paint for the moon and I think you can see the reflection.
Do you think I'm feeding her habit???

Happy Halloween to all of you!

A Touch of Autumn

Hello from New Hampshire!

I know.... I didn't tell anyone that I was leaving but then that's the fun of it! We drove up in our motor home so we have our own little house parked on my daughter and son-in-law's field. I thought I'd share a picture that I took this morning around 6am when the mist was just lifting. You can just catch a glimpse of the colors of the trees in the background. It's standard 1024x768 if you'd like to use it on your desktop.

We have been having a lovely time. I taught the polymer clay class and it was a great success. Of course I forgot to bring my camera along so... sorry ... no pics of the class. They were all lovely ladies with a great deal of enthusiasm. I especially liked the way they all just ran with their own creative ideas. Once I got them started there was no stopping them! I think there are 8 brand new and excited clay artists out there now. Thank you all for attending my class and a special thank you to Jen, owner of Simply Bead'n Around for making it all happen. If you are in the area of Meridith NH make it a point to stop in. It's a beautiful shop with the most amazing jewelry and jewelry making supplies ... Jen is the sweetest person to help you make selections.

Hope you are all having a great week...

Forgive me if you're not local or within driving distance but I wanted to put a shout out for our Farmer's Market in Pine Bush. They are featuring a Pumpkin Festival today that should be great fun.

In the evening stop by Quimby and Smith for their Artist's Cafe. They are featuring a local pottery artist. I've seen their work (sneek peek) and it's beautiful.

Keith Lo Bue's Class - Shrines and Icons

I'm baaaack! For those of you who don't know where I disappeared to, I attended a 3 day workshop in Connecticut called Art Is You and participated in Keith Lo Bue's classes all three days. Janet (Baskerville Designs) and I went together, full of excitement to learn... and learn we did! Keith is an amazing teacher... so full of information and so personable too. He's actually quite funny but at the same time very focused, giving each and every one of us individual attention to our projects. We couldn't be happier that we took his classes and now that it's over we're full of excitement to put all that information to work. But.... we're just plain exhausted! lol

What a great bunch of gals at the workshops. We had SO much fun! It's such an amazing environment at Art Is You where you are surrounded by like minds.. creative minds. And oooohhhhh the food! I won't even discuss what I ate and am now wearing... lol Sallianne and Ellen did a wonderful job of coordinating this workshop weekend for us on the East Coast. So many treats and treasures and so full of inspiration! Thank you Sal and Ellen! I know they have a fabulous line-up of instructors for next year so start planning to come... you will never be disappointed. Next year's theme is the Wizard of Oz and they're already paving the yellow brick road for you.

Janet and I are now back home with our husbands and families... back to reality... but this past weekend will stay with us every day to keep our creative spirits high. Stay tuned to see all the great new things we will do with our new found knowledge.

Oh... and no pictures.. sorry... but I'm sure there will be other attendees with all the incriminating photos. ;o)

Now to finish unpacking...

Hope you all had a great weekend.

P.S. Stop back soon so I can tell you about the horrific restaurant we went to one night. I firmly believe that good deserves attention... but then so does bad... and this was really bad.

So sorry...

I have been so incredibly busy and neglecting my blog. I also should mention that I probably won't blog again until early next week.

In the meantime I have to leave a freebie for you to play with while I'm gone.

Have a great week!
